Differentiating Instruction Your written response to this discussion prompt assesses your ability to discuss teaching and learning with leadership. This discussion also supports your achievement of Course Learning Outcome Three. Teachers have a powerful role in the classroom and larger school community. School teachers, administrators, curriculum and instructional specialists, and educators/trainers make hundreds of decisions a day; these decisions affect many people. As such, it is important for educators to ground their decisions according to the latest research and in alignment with the established vision for their organization. Initial Post: Post an initial response that addresses the following areas: Read Phelps’ (2008) article titled “Helping teachers become leaders.” Compare his statement with at least two vision statements that you find via a Google search. In the discussion forum, create your own vision statement. Phelps provides an example in the article. As Phelps (2008) suggests, go beyond mantras such as “all students can learn” (p. 119). The heart of your vision should address an educational dilemma in a diverse learning context. For example, a possible dilemma in the mantra “all students can learn” is that there are teachers who believe that some students do not learn, which is indicative of a “one size fits all” type of teaching. Your vision statement will address a problem you see in education and describe how you choose to solve that problem. Reflect on how your beliefs will influence your classroom practices. As Phelps (2008) indicates, “Formulating one’s vision in writing makes its achievement more likely” (p. 120).

Which site would you choose as your primary source of information? Why? I would choose https://www.greenpeace.org. First, I would use this website because it contains reliable and accurate information. Its content is adequately referenced, and it borrows from the work of other authors. Second, information contained in this website is useful in performing all the tasks mentioned. For the second task, which is raising awareness, the site itself is a perfect example of how people can raise awareness towards environmental preservation. It has details of the issues to talk about and how to present information that motivates the need for change. For instance, it has video clips and motivational messages which empower people. The website also contains information on the need to care for the forests, a topic which is related to “Save the Amazon” initiative. Its details can, therefore, be used to state the importance of the Amazon rain forest. For the third task, the website has information on ways of engaging people in initiatives. It has details on how to donate and volunteer for environmental initiatives. It also informs people of how to get involved in such initiatives at community levels by being part of protests and signing petitions. While preparing for the tasks, this website will help me determine a direction to take in the report. 2. Using different information from all 3 sites write a paragraph on the importance of preserving the Amazon. Remember to cite your sources accordingly. Preserving the Amazon is important because of the following reasons: First, the Amazon is a home for numerous plant and animal species in the world, some of which are rare, diverse and unique (Meyer, 2010). Second, the Amazon covers up to 7 million square kilometres of land, making it the largest rainforest in the world (Meyer, 2010). It, therefore, determines whether patterns in the world and essential in climatic stability. The Amazon is also important in the purification of air due to its large intake of carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere and production of a large percentage of the earth’s oxygen (Meyer, 2010). Third, the Amazon is also a source of livelihood for the numerous people who reside there (Fick, 2019). It is, therefore, important that these indigenous groups of people experience stability live at peace. Endangering the Amazon also means putting the lives of these people in danger. Fourth, the Amazon is faced by numerous challenges that emerge in all seasons. More specifically, the fires at the Amazon have left devastating effects of plant and animal species, by causing multiple deaths (Daly, 2019). Taking measures to preserve the forest will ensure that these animal and plant species are safe. 3. Which site would you use to prepare for your second task? (Visit the local high schools to raise awareness among young people) Why? I would use the https://www.brazil.org.za/amazon-rainforest.html website. I would use this website to raise awareness because part of raising awareness is making people informed. In this case, “Save the Amazon” initiative requires that people understand why there is a need to save the Amazon before learning how to take action. This site will be useful in creating awareness because it contains information or rather, facts about the Amazon. It gives details on how the Amazon is of great value to the world since it produces a large amount of the world’s oxygen and intakes large amounts of carbon dioxide. The website also provides information on the diverse species of plants and animals in the Amazon. Providing information about the Amazon will make people realize that the Amazon rainforest is not only important to the people living there but to the entire world. I believe young people will be more interested in being part of the initiative after learning that part of their survival is dependent on the Amazon, and any destruction to the Amazon threatens their future. After giving information about the Amazon, the young people of the high school can then be informed of how to be part of the initiative. 4. Which site would you use to prepare for your third task? (Prepare a detailed report with specific suggestions on how to engage and mobilize your community) Why? I would use the https://www.greenpeace.org/africa/en/explore/ website. I would use this website because it is also involved in the mobilization of people towards environmental safety and preservation. The site provides details on the actions that can be taken to mobilize people and engage them in environmental matters such matters will be useful in helping in coming with mobilization and engagement ideas. For instance, the website helps to make people understand their power and how much they could achieve when they come together to protest any environmental challenges that can be prevented. It explains how people can be mobilized to protest against matters like the Amazon fires and demand change from the responsible authorities. It also gives ideas on how to effect changes from the roots by beginning from the local community. Besides that, it provides information on how to volunteer and the various areas where people can volunteer to show support for the course. The information will help in outlining areas where people can volunteer towards “Save the Amazon” initiative. In cases o mobilization, some people might be interested in giving donations to the initiative. This website has details on how to give donations, which can be useful in developing a donation system. 5. Suggest another website that could be useful for your work? Explain why you think this site is useful (advantages), and which part of your work you would use it for. https://www.pulselive.co.ke/bi/tech/earth-is-a-spaceship-and-the-amazon-is-a-crucial-part-of-our-life-support-system/qk9qk2v This site is useful because it contains detailed information about the Amazon Rainforest, which is crucial to the “Save the Amazon” initiative. The website outlines the reasons why the Amazon Rainforest is essential for the survival of human beings. In its explanations, it indicates specific examples and figures derived from previous research. For instance, it is stated in the website that researchers have determined that the Amazon rainforest provides at most 20% of the world’s oxygen, thus popularly known as the lungs of the heart. The Amazon forest also intakes 140 billion tons of carbon dioxide. By using specific examples and quoting from other researches, this website has an accuracy of information. The website is also timely as it was published in 2019 and contains information about current events like Amazon fire. The site also provides an extensive coverage of the Amazon rainforest by discussion its importance to the world, the people who live in the Amazon and the challenges that the Amazon face.I would use this website in the second part of the work, which requires raising awareness about “Save the Amazon Initiative”.
